Wolfratshausen – Keeping the Marienbrunnen, Mariensäule and plane trees at the previous location is the goal of a signature campaign initiated by the Wolfratshausen list in June.

So far, 2,650 residents of Wolfratshausen have supported the motion for the citizens' initiative "Protection of the historic old town", whose signatures were recently accepted by Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner.

"We ask the mayor to clarify at the next city council meeting whether the admissibility requirements for the citizens' petition are met," explained Manfred Fleischer before the handover.

First of all, proof of 9 percent of the signatures of the approximately 14,000 eligible voters in Wolfratshausen, i.e. around 1,350, was necessary.

This hurdle was clearly cleared with 2,650 signatures collected.

The issue is now back on the City Council agenda.

If the committee declares the referendum to be admissible and agrees to the suggestion, the holding of a referendum could even be omitted - namely if the 15:5 majority decision made in April for the relocation of the fountain is overturned.

The initiators of the citizens' initiative fear that the ensemble could be significantly damaged during the construction work.

They also criticized the high costs, which are expected to be around 200,000 euros.

Proponents of moving the fountain hope that Marienplatz will be widened and there will be more space for events.

Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner now has to check the signatures.

Although the quorum was reached, further signature lists are still available in the Löwenbräu restaurant, Edeka Heininger in Waldram, Schuhmoden Meiller and in the Isar and Marie pharmacies.
