The bell is for them:

Yana Poliev, 45 years old, is starting the school year today for the first time as an instructor at the Ort Netanya boarding school for a group of high school students from former Soviet Union countries. Vladimir who is a student at the Zionist Youth Farm in Jerusalem.

Yana, a lawyer by profession, immigrated to Israel in 2020 and started working in a local authority where she provided assistance to new immigrants.

She came to Israel following her two sons who immigrated to Israel before her.

Now all three are strongly connected to the youth villages.

Yan, 24 years old, came to Israel back in 2015 when he was 17 years old after finishing his studies.

He served as a warrior in the nut.

About six months ago, he began tutoring students who fled the war zones in Ukraine following the war in the "Hadasa Youth" youth village.

"I have a mission to help them acclimate here in all respects."

Yana's second son is Vladimir, 17 years old. He also immigrated to Israel without his mother as part of the Naalah program (youth immigrating before parents).

Yana says: "I got to know the field closely through my son Vladimir, who came to Israel alone. I saw how important the boarding school educators were in the process of his education and absorption in Israel. For me, it is an exciting closing of the circle, to be a boarding school teacher for Na'alah students.

I believe that I know what they are feeling and going through in their journey in a new country, which both I and my children have been through, and I can help them integrate."

Jan talks about his mother's choice to become a teacher: "I'm proud of her and I'm sure she'll succeed, because she has a lot of patience and love to give to her students, like she gave us her own children. She's the mother of two children who chose to immigrate to Israel and she knows what the parents and students feel and can understand them and connect to them".

Both Jana and Jan moved to the institutions where they work, where they are with the students around the clock.

"At school I am a teacher but also a grandmother"

Grandma Ariela is a teacher and educator.

Her son, Avraham, will also follow her this year and join the school's teaching staff.

The grandchildren and nephews are also students.

And what is the name of the school?

Achi.

At the Achai school (Akhdot Israel) for grades 1-8 in Shatku, the grandmother, Ariela Levy, 64 years old, has been an educator for nearly forty years, and as of today, so is her son, Avraham Levy, 32 years old. He will be a new educator at the school, and by the way, he is also A graduate of the school If all this is not enough, several of Ariela's grandsons and granddaughters study at the same school, and Abraham is actually their uncle.

Ariela has been working at the Ahi school for 32 years since she and her family came to Tkou in the late 1980s and the school was still in its early years. Seven of her eight children studied there and six of them still live in Tkou, so her grandchildren also attend the school. "Over the years I also taught My grandchildren," says Ariela and wants to emphasize: "But I was not their class teacher.

When my granddaughter comes to me at the end of the school day it moves me.

However, the grandchildren and the teacher know that there are limits, that grandma at school is a teacher, but also a grandma."

The son Avraham followed in his mother's footsteps and starts teaching at school this morning.

He moved with his wife to live in the settlement and taught the 7th grade.

"This is the closing of a circle for me, I grew up in the school and it had a great influence on me. I have been a teacher for several years. Now, following the advice of my rabbi, I understood the uniqueness of returning to the place where I grew up, returning home and giving back precisely to this environment. Today I am educating the generation of My teachers' grandchildren."

The name of the Levy family went far and wide all over Gush Etzion.

The head of the council, Shlomo Naaman: "The teachers and students in Gush Etzion are part of the generational chain of education for the love of the people and the land and the connection to this place."

"Joys to teach in the studio where we studied"

At the Bnei Akiva Studio "Segula" in Kiryat Motzkin, this year you will find in the teachers' room no less than 31 female graduates of the studio who have chosen to return and teach there.

The school year often opens with new and unfamiliar faces both in the classrooms and in the teachers' room.

But in the teacher's room of the studio it will be a little easier.

The reason: 31 teachers in the teachers' room are themselves graduates of the studio.

The oldest teacher in the teachers' room is Hadassah Kafka, 61 years old. She retired but remains to accompany teachers in the studio.

For her, the connection to the studio "is a love that does not depend on anything. I found here a home, family, support, stability, backup and teamwork. This is what allowed me to be here in the system for 40 years."

650 female students study at the studio, it was established 58 years ago.

This is the first year of Sheilat Gurvitz, 25 years old, from today a teacher at Olpana until 7 years ago she studied there herself.

"I was looking for a place that understands the needs of the generation and dares to innovate pedagogically, despite the challenges involved. I'm glad it's a familiar place where I grew up."

Ruhama Hazot, the head of the studio, tried to explain the large number of graduates in the teachers' room: "The graduates who return to the studio are the strongest expression of the students' trust and love for the studio, along with a great feeling of commitment to continue the tradition of the studio family."

Elhanan Galt, CEO of the Bnei Akiva network: "We are witnessing high percentages in the studios of female graduates returning to teach as teachers.

In my opinion, this is the greatest certificate of appreciation we could ask for our educational institutions when graduates see them as a home, are connected to the world of religious and academic values and seek to be and influence like the teachers they had."

"One holds a pencil and the other a gun"

In the Sharlo Miroham family there are 8 children, Gilad is the third son and Nir is the oldest.

Gilad and Nir have also prepared their own case in the last few days in preparation for entering a new system.

The difference between the two is 13 years.

While Gilad, 19, enlisted about two weeks ago in the military system, Nir is starting first grade today.

Gilad enlisted two and a half weeks ago.

"We did the preparations at the same time. The first days were interesting, adapting to the military system and the military language. We are starting the training and it's a new world where you get to know everything - the commanders, the guys - just like going up to first grade."

Young Nir is also excited about his new beginning.

"I've already been to the school and seen the class. I'm waiting to start studying and meet new friends."

The mother, Maya, is a special education teacher in Be'er Sheva.

The father, Elkana, is a rabbi and a teacher in various educational institutions in the southern region.

Both find it difficult to contain their excitement: "This is a very special experience for us. We are marking two entrances to two systems, the security and the education. These are the most important systems in the State of Israel," says Elkana the elder.

"These are two systems that are so different from each other, and yet very, very similar. One is a student and one is a soldier, one holds a pencil and the other a rifle, one has a teacher and the other a commander. But there is a 'class' in both."

"We are all partners in the great mission"

Another family that has already changed their home in the last school year is the Nemer family who moved to the youth village of Mabuot-Yam in Makmorut.

The father of the family, Roi Nemer, 45, a lieutenant colonel in the reserves, became an educator at a boarding school. Today he begins his second year in the position after moving with his wife Marev and their four children Rom (14), Liram (10), Tamar (8) and Omar (6) from Ramat The Golan to live in the village: "It required a process of change and adaptation from the family, but everyone is a partner in the great mission," he says.

Nemer began his service in Dvedvan and after he was injured he moved to the field of logistics.

In his last position he served as a team commander at the Command and Staff College.

After his release, he chose teaching: "I worked as a teacher for a short time and I felt that my role was academically oriented and limited to the classroom. In a boarding school, I live with the students and see them from the moment they get up until they go to bed. I share the meaning of their lives in the academic, social and personal aspects. These interactions create a deep connection with the students and enable a significant educational process."

Passing with father, the guide to the village,

According to Ilana Nolman, Head of the Administration for Settlement Education, Boarding Schools and Youth Development at the Ministry of Education: "Boarding school administrators and educators are influential and significant figures in the educational process. Recruiting, retaining and developing quality personnel in boarding school education is critical to the quality of the educational response provided to students."
