After almost three weeks of staying in hotels in Eilat, many of the evacuees from southern cities find it difficult to acclimatize far from their homes and wish to return home.

Hotels in Eilat were surprised Sunday morning after many of the evacuees who have been staying at the hotel for two weeks or more asked to leave, claiming that they felt uncomfortable and difficult to stay away from the rest of their families in Israel.

Some hotels have many empty rooms this week. Some of the evacuees who were evacuated from their homes with only basic belongings announced that they would forgo staying at the hotel even though it was funded by the state.

Many of them spoke of the uncertainty on the part of the state regarding the work grant and suspected that they would have nowhere to return to. "We're out of work and don't really know what to do, it's true that we were evacuated from the area and there are no sirens or rocket fire in Eilat, but there's no sense of freedom here. We are a family of two parents and two children in one room and one bathroom. It is difficult to live like this over time. Everyone needs their own corner and equipment. We decided to return home to the south," says Etty.

In one of the hotels in the city, an argument broke out between residents of Sderot who were evacuated by the state and residents of Netivot who vacated and pay for the hotel themselves. Among the evacuees from the kibbutzim of the envelope, there was also a sense of exhaustion from the hotels in Eilat. Some of the evacuees who lost loved ones and friends had to travel several times back and forth from Eilat north to the funerals. Many complain about the difficulty of the long journeys.

At the same time that some of the evacuees are leaving their hotels, apartment owners from Eilat who rented out rooms and apartments in the city also report that some of the apartments have emptied and are offering them again for rent.

The Eilat Municipality and the Municipal Tourism Corporation continue to embrace the residents of the north and south and have decided to strengthen businesses in the city. Through the Business Home in the Economic Development Department and the Municipal Tourism Corporation, starting this week, the municipality is operating a subsidized project aimed at assisting guests staying in Eilat in the shadow of the war and at the same time strengthening the local economy and the city's resident business owners.
