Opinion | The processes we didn't want to identify: the new generation of Palestinians is embracing Nazism | Israel Hayom

2023-10-31T23:38:50.647Z

Highlights: Ahed Tamimi, the blue-eyed Palestinian poster girl who slapped a police officer, pulls out the Nazi card. She's not a fringe or an aging Holocaust-denying leader — she's the new generation and Hitler is his hero. Tamimi's generation is determined to end Hitler's life's work. These are the processes we didn't want to identify. The sea is the same sea, and the evil is thesame evil. Israel, too, in its stupidity, is confused. An outdated generation, a remnant of an extinct layer of leadership that is already obsolete.

"Mabrouk to Ahed Tamimi on the release," wrote then-Peace Now secretary general Shaked Morag when the poster girl for the Palestinian struggle was released from an Israeli prison. If you've forgotten that too much water has passed through Wadi Gaza since then, here are some keywords that will refresh your memory: 2017. A Palestinian girl. Golden curls. Blue eyes. Slap to officer. Arrest. 2018. Liberation celebrations. An emotional meeting with Mahmoud Abbas, a phone call from Erdogan. Victory round in Europe. Guest of honor of Riad Madrid.

Mahon Lehon is already 22 years old, and recently managed to publish, in English, a book about the history of her struggle, her path and her ideas. Its merchandise has buyers, which means that it was and remains a symbol, and not for nothing: the symbol of the young, sophisticated, digital, seemingly nonviolent generation in the Palestinian struggle.

And this symbol opened his mouth this week to say on his Instagram account the following horrifying words: "We will slaughter you and you will say that what Hitler did to you was a joke. We will drink your blood."

So I'm going to dance a little petty foxtrot moment on this thing, because it's very principled to understand who we're dealing with. Because not only Peace Now excitedly marked her release, but also many others on the left. Israeli activists participated in its liberation celebrations. In the left-wing press, she was crowned with "heroism and courage" and "a heroine who will not surrender," and the late Yonatan Geffen put her on par with Anne Frank (and apologized for the public contempt he received).

Big World Girl

So here, the golden-haired poster girl, who toured Europe, who had her hat removed by international rights organizations, who was interviewed in the prestigious media, who was the heroine of exhibitions, books and documentaries, who saw the Western world and who was seen by the Western world – pulling out the Nazi card. Hitler is the hero of the princess of the cosmopolitan, enlightened, pro-Western wing of the Palestinian struggle. She is not some fringe who has been brainwashed by extremist preachers in mosques; She's a big world girl. And she dreams of being like Hitler when she grows up.

On Abbas' filthy anti-Semitism – who only last month explained that the Nazis despised Jews because they deal with money – the Western world is restrained. Israel, too, in its stupidity, is confused. A matter of age, they say. An outdated generation, a remnant of an extinct layer of leadership that is already obsolete.

But then the new generation appears, and it turns out that its anti-Semitism is not only more sickening, sick and disturbed – but also more decisive and practical. The elderly Mahmoud Abbas is a Holocaust denier and spreads anti-Semitic blood libels with the taste of yesteryear. Ahed Tamimi's generation is determined to end Hitler's life's work.

After 7.10, we are no longer allowed to turn a blind eye to the Nazi obsession of Palestinian society. I apologize to Yad Vashem, but this is precisely the historic moment to compare reality to the Holocaust. These are the processes we didn't want to identify. The sea is the same sea, and the evil is the same evil.
