Highlights: An achievement for Hamas and Hezbollah is an achievement for China, which threatens its surroundings, and for Russia, which is fighting in Ukraine. Both, along with Iran, are waiting for the end of the conflict in Gaza to cut coupons. This is compounded by manifestations of hostility towards Israel, which we witnessed in the Security Council and the UN General Assembly. These lead us to think that the entire world is against us, and take us back to the old days, when an unholy coalition stood against Israel and supported every act of aggression against it.

The demonstrations of hatred by incited mobs, mostly by immigrants from the Arab and Muslim world, in several cities in Western countries, as well as manifestations of anti-Semitism and hatred of Jews and Israel on the campuses of leading universities in the United States, usually by students and lecturers from disciplines that are already in decline, not least because they have already forgotten what science is and what truth and scientific integrity are – all these create an irresistible sense of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic drift. This is compounded by manifestations of hostility towards Israel, which we witnessed in the Security Council and the UN General Assembly.

These lead us to think that the entire world is against us, and take us back to the old days, when an unholy coalition – from Peking to Moscow, and alongside these two oppressive dictatorships – a host of countries between which democracy, freedom and truth are nothing, stood against Israel and supported every act of aggression against it.

Several years have passed since then, but it is unfortunate to see how the ambassadors of China and Russia to the UN – countries that sided with the Syrian dictator when he used chemical weapons against his own people, and whose own hands are covered in blood in Ukraine and Syria – condemn Israel and are unable to utter a bad word about Hamas. And with us, there were still those who mistakenly regarded them as friends...

Fortunately, this chorus of hypocrisy and duplicitousness is insignificant and influential in the Middle East, and even in the international arena, and unlike in the past, it cannot even harm us. On the other hand, the enlightened world, headed by the United States, is standing by Israel in an unprecedented manner.

Frankly, it's hard to think of a war we've waged in the past in which Israel enjoyed so much support and had the backing of most countries in the enlightened world, from Washington to London and Berlin to Paris.

Public opinion in Western countries – not necessarily the tweeters, nor the immigrant communities that have recently come to the West, but the general public in these countries – supports the vast majority of Israel and its right to defend itself in the wake of the terrible massacre perpetrated by Hamas murderers. The Western public and its leaders understand that the war in Gaza is not only a war between Israel and Hamas, but a war between good and evil, a war against extremism and Islamic terrorism, and if they do not stop in Gaza, they may reach the West as well.

This is also understood by most Arab rulers, who continue to hold our fingers in the hope that we will defeat Hamas and rid them of the threat of radical Islam hovering over their heads, as well as from the Iranian danger.

For the United States, this is part of a global struggle whose consequences will be felt far beyond the borders of the Middle East. After all, any achievement for Hamas and Hezbollah that challenge Israel is an achievement for those countries that seek to challenge the United States and its allies all over the world – whether in Southeast Asia, where China casts its shadow that threatens the countries around it, or in Europe, where Russia went to war against Ukraine. These two, along with Iran, are waiting for the end of the conflict in Gaza in order to cut the coupons.

The understanding in the West that the war in Gaza is in fact the war of Western democracies leads them to side with Israel in providing us with military, political, and economic aid, and especially the window of time required to complete the task.

The Western public and its leaders understand that the war in Gaza is not just a war between Israel and Hamas, but a war between good and evil, a war against extremism and Islamic terrorism, and if they do not stop in Gaza, they may reach the West as well

Support for Israel from its friends is more heartwarming and steadfast than ever. It's a shame that we needed the October 7 disaster to find out who our friends are – and who prefers to stand on the sidelines, criticize, condemn and actually try to give Hamas a lifeline.

It is worth remembering this for the day after the war – when Israel will once again debate whether to recognize the genocide perpetrated by the Ottomans against Armenians in World War I, whether to side with Ukraine in its struggle against the Russian invader, and whether to condemn China for systematic violations of human rights.
