After a three-week Corona break, EC Peiting is back in the Oberliga: At ECDC Memmingen, the team showed a committed performance, but there was no reward.

Memmingen – The restart after a three-week Corona break went wrong for EC Peiting: Coach Anton Saal’s team lost 4-2 to the “Indians” of ECDC Memmingen yesterday.

The ECP again went away empty-handed against a team from the top four of the Oberliga.

"We weren't smart enough.

We don't reward ourselves for our hard work," said Saal immediately after the game.

In view of the difficult conditions beforehand, he said of his squad's performance: "Overall, it was okay."

Just a few seconds after the initial face-off, Shane Heffernan fired – a quick hit would have been a brilliant debut for the ECP's newcomer. But "Indians" keeper Marco Eisenhut parried. Peiting started briskly, but soon the Memmingers had recovered. Well played, Jaroslav Hafenrichter scored to lead 1:0 (6th). As a result, the "Indians" repeatedly won duels and thus came to offensive actions. The people from Peitingen had to survive several tricky situations outnumbered (12th); among other things, Memmingen's Donat Peter hit the crossbar. Towards the end of the third, the guests freed themselves - and equalized: Nardo Nagtzaam fought for the puck, Simon Maier used his cross pass (he made his comeback after a long injury) to make it 1:1 (19th). Immediately afterwards, Maier had another huge chance.

EC Peiting loses 4-2 at ECDC Memmingen

It was back and forth in the middle third, with both teams struggling to coordinate in a few situations.

That was not surprising: both of them were only able to train to a limited extent due to the corona – on top of that they were weakened by replacements.

ECP goalkeeper Florian Hechenrieder, on the other hand, was absolutely on top form.

And that was also necessary: Hechenrieder parried five times alone when an “Indians” actor appeared alone in front of him.

He saved against Petr Pohl (24th, 27th), Peter (33rd, 40th) and Hafenrichter (34th) with some spectacular saves.

The Peitinger were not quite as compelling offensively, but also had some promising actions.

Heffernan (27'), Lukas Gohlke (37') and Maximilian Söll (38') came into dangerous action in the middle third.

The final third got off to a turbulent start: First, Peiting's Tim Mühlegger narrowly missed (43'), followed by the Memminger hitting the post (44').

The hosts took advantage of Peiting's second deficit in the game with ice cold: Petr scored to make it 2-1 (48th).

Peiting shocked?

no way.

Mühlegger - after a good action by Markus Czogallik - only missed by centimeters (49th).

Peiting kept trying, but Czogallik failed to save (54').

Again, the Memmingen took advantage of a majority: Peter scored with the backhand to make it 3:1 (55th).

But even this goal did not discourage the guests.

Only 28 seconds later, a flick from Maximilian Söll landed in the goal from near the blue line to make it 2:3 (56th).

However, there was no turning point because Pekr scored the 4:2 (59th) after the “Indians” had won the puck in the round.

Statistics:

1st period: 1:0 (5:50) Hafenrichter (Pohl), 1:1 (18:41) Maier (Nagtzaam).

2nd third: no goals.

3rd period: 2:1 (47:05) Pekr (Topol/5-4), 3:1 (54:34) Peter (5-4), 3:2 (55:02) Söll (Maier), 4 :2 (58:24) Pekr (Topol).

Penalty minutes: Memmingen 8, Peiting 8. Referee: Holzer;
