The public prosecutor's office Bremerhaven investigates against the Lower Saxony AfD local politician Marcus Hoffmann, because he is said to have smuggled drugs on a large scale. This emerges from a search warrant of the district court Bremerhaven, which is the SPIEGEL.
The investigators accuse the 45-year-old to have been involved in the illegal import of 98 kilos of cocaine through the container port Bremerhaven. The fabric has a street sales value of about eight million euros. There are three other defendants in the case.
Skilled worker in the harbor
Hoffmann deals with two incidents in August and in October 2019. At the time he was employed as a skilled worker at the Gesamthafenbetriebsverein. The prosecutor confirms the procedure, but does not name names. Hoffmann did not want to comment. He was chairman of the AfD district association Cuxhaven.
The Lower Saxony AfD state chairman Dana Guth said Hoffmann had given the post four weeks ago "for personal reasons". She was "surprised" by the investigation and stressed that he was presumed innocent.
In early November, the prosecution had confirmed that there were several searches in the process. Affected were therefore apartments in Bremen, Bremerhaven and in the community Wurster North Sea coast.
