Christmas: Cia, the tradition is worth 4.8 billion at the table

A total expenditure of 4.8 billion euros between Christmas and New Year. These are the estimates of Cia-Agricoltori Italiani, according to which over two out of three Italians will spend the holidays within the home with relatives and friends, preferring local dishes in 75% of cases. (HANDLE)


- The tradition at the table is back for the end of year parties which, like every year, gets the better of exotic fashions in the kitchen. To win, as always, are homemade lunches and dinners with products related to the territory for a total expenditure of 4.8 billion euros between Christmas and New Year. These are the estimates of Cia-Agricoltori Italiani, according to which over two out of three Italians will spend the holidays within the home with relatives and friends, preferring local dishes in 75% of cases.

If the classic Christmas tables will absorb up to 2.8 billion, on average 140 euros per family, almost 2 billion is the food budget expected to set up the New Year's Eve dinner and the first January lunch in the houses. 25% of Italians, on the other hand, will choose restaurants, trattorias or agritourisms to await the arrival of 2020. In the menus, according to Cia, traditional and regional recipes win and therefore ragù, boiled meat, tortellini in broth, battered vegetables, lamb, cotechino and lentils, pandoro and panettone.

For the New Year's Eve dinner, families will buy mostly fish for 500 million euros, including anchovies, cod, sea bream, sea bass, trout and capitone. Also in these festivals, sparkling wine and prosecco will triumph over champagne, with 90% of the tricolor toasts and over 70 million corks ready to jump from here to the new year. Local and local menus will also win in the farmhouses, where the traditions of peasant cuisine are enhanced by the Agrichef Cia.

According to the Turismo Verde agritourism association, these long holidays will reward the holiday in the countryside (+ 6%), especially on the catering front.
