Football professional Jérôme Boateng is said to have become violent against his former partner several times. Now it is clear: the case will go to court.

The Munich District Court has approved charges against former soccer player Jérôme Boateng for assaulting his former partner. This was confirmed by a spokesman for the court. WDR and Süddeutsche Zeitung had first reported on it.

The football professional has been under the investigators' eye since autumn 2018. He is said to have attacked his ex-partner. According to the "Süddeutscher Zeitung", Boateng's defenders said the allegations were "a private matter that was essentially based on unproven third-party claims".

"Just simple assault"

The prosecutor's office had investigated two incidents against Boateng: he was said to have beaten the woman once and thrown objects at the second. Because of this, he was also accused of dangerous bodily harm.

However, the judge decided for several reasons to allow only "simple bodily harm": In the case of primary medical care, the woman did not speak of having been attacked with objects. In addition, the judge was taken aback by the large interval between the incident and the report. In addition, there were contradictions between the statements of several witnesses. The defense finally submitted a video documenting the condition of the woman after the alleged attack. The judge concluded that the injuries were not serious enough to warrant a dangerous physical injury charge.

According to the spokesman, the public prosecutor has appealed the decision of the district court to the district court. The district judge wants to wait for the decision of the next instance and has therefore not yet set a trial date.
