Not only the great classics, such as Tombola, card games and Mercante in Fiera. On top of the board games that are dusted off in the festive weeks there are news that go crazy in these days, also the result of independent minds and not of renowned games and toys industries. Video games, from the United States to the whole of Europe, including Italy, are abandoned for a few days, it is the turn of board games with cards and boards . The Christmas parties at Epiphany are an opportunity to meet with friends and relatives and it is traditional to spend long afternoons at home dedicated to board games, from bingo to cards. The phenomenon of the moment is ' Exploding Kittens', a highly strategic version of Russian roulette with cards that portray cats, in fact, explosives. For some demented, however irreverent and funny, it is infecting many cities from New York to London. The project was born from three owners of a humorous site, The Oatmeal, and was initially funded with the contribution of over 200,000 people through the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform. First broadcast on Youtube in the American sketck comedy Smosh is now the game of the year . The new version of the cult board game of the nineties 'Guess who' dedicated to famous women who made history was also financed on the same crowdfunding platform. From Frida Kahlo to activist Malala or scientist Marie Curie, all the female figures to be guessed are painted with watercolors on birch tablets. The project is curated by a Polish entrepreneur, Zuzia Kozerska-Girard and is on top of the most purchased Christmas gifts in Europe (it is sold in many languages, including Italian). In France, ' Forbidden Desert ' goes wild , cooperative board game, sequel to 'The forbidden island' where you have to survive from the scorching heat and sandstorms. In Italy the tombola (in its French and Neapolitan variants) and the Merchant at the fair (ancient game practiced since 1500) remain on top of favorite home activities in these weeks of school holidays but there is also a lot of play in the 'escape room', table version of the 'escape rooms' popular in the main cities of the peninsula and always crowded.
