On the way to Christmas holiday in Austria, a German pilot and his two daughters crashed in a small plane last Saturday - the father died in the accident. Now one of the surviving children has also died from his serious injuries, the hospital said.
The twelve-year-old girl suffered several broken bones and internal injuries when she fell in Salzburg's Pinzgau region. The nine-year-old sister survived the crash with bruises.
The family comes from the Cologne area. The mother was driving to the winter sports resort and wanted to meet her family there. The plane had started at Cologne / Bonn Airport, the 66-year-old father wanted to fly with the daughters to Zell am See. The weather was bad there. The machine crashed into a forested mountain slope in the municipality of Bruck an der Glocknerstrasse (Pinzgau).
The fire brigade, the mountain rescue service and the Red Cross initially had difficulty finding the wreck. "It is in the middle of the forest," said Red Cross operations manager Anton Voithofer, according to the "Salzburger Nachrichten". In addition, snow, rain and thick fog hampered the rescue of the victims.
