Matzneff case: investigators arrive at Gallimard

2020-01-09T18:20:13.918Z

The editor of Gabriel Matzneff, the writer who is the subject of an investigation into rape of minors, was visited by the police on Wednesday

It is a visit that would have gone well for the prestigious publishing house. According to our information, police arrived Wednesday, January 8, in the magnificent mansion of Gallimard, street of the same name in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.

Their mission? Recover copies of the books of the writer Gabriel Matzneff, who is the subject of an investigation for rape of minors entrusted to the Central Office for the Suppression of Violence against Persons (OCRVP) by the minors section of the Paris prosecutor's office . The writer is implicated in the story of Vanessa Springora, "Consent". A book released earlier this week, in which she recounts the predatory grip exerted on her by the writer in the 1980s. Their relationship had started when she was only 13 years old, age below the sexual majority, while Matzneff was already fifty years old.

Matzneff's writings removed from bookstores

Justice intended to get hold of the author's newspapers and novels before they disappeared from the circuit. They have already been removed from bookstores at the request of its publishers, the main one being Gallimard. These writings may indeed constitute evidence in the context of the investigation. Contacted this Thursday about this police visit, Gallimard's press service soberly commented: "We have not heard of this story".

Tuesday, the editor had announced the stop of the marketing of the newspaper of the writer, whose last volume, "the Lover of the Arsenal" left in November. "The suffering expressed by Vanessa Springora in the Consent gives rise to a voice whose strength justifies this exceptional measure," explained in a press release the publishing house which has published Gabriel Matzneff's newspaper since 1990. It is the first time that Gallimard is taking such a step.
