(by Francesco Gallo) (ANSA) - ROME, JAN 10 - Although 'Herzog meets Gorbachev' is only a documentary made up of a series of interviews and repertoire materials, it does not lack fascination because what it tells is great history. Distributed by Wonder Pictures and Unipol Biografilm Collection, in theaters from 19 to 22 January, the documentary features the 88-year-old president of the Soviet Union and Nobel Prize winner for lapace, Mikhail Gorbachev. It is he who recounts, without ever boring and with his face dacontadino, the years that revolutionized the course of the twentieth century, from the signing of agreements on nuclear disarmament to the end of the cold war and the collapse of the USSR. In short, the most important moments of his political life (1985-1991) and private situation which can be defined as a sort of his moral and existential testament. Made by the director Werner Herzog and the director and producer André Singer, the film tells Gorbachev from peasant childhood to studies at the University of Moscow, until his rapid rise in the ranks of the Soviet Communist Party. It is a journey through memories, white and black archival materials and exceptional testimonies, from Thatcher to Reagan, to retrace the salient stages of politics in the last few decades. (HANDLE).
