Radio audiences: despite the strike, France Inter beats its historic record

2020-01-13T13:08:32.487Z

France Inter remains the most listened to station in front of RTL in November and December, accumulating 6.9 million listeners each day.

For a surprise, it's a surprise! Against all expectations, France Inter comes out a big winner in the wave of radio audiences for the months of November and December 2019, which Médiamétrie will publish Tuesday at 8 a.m. According to the figures, which we obtained in preview, the public radio carried by the morning of Léa Salamé and Nicolas Demorand pulverizes its historic record of audience.

This fall, it had 6.95 million listeners each day (12.8 cumulative audience points), or 490,000 more compared to the same period in 2018, the date of its previous record (and 580,000 more until the start of the new school year last September). A feat, both the antenna of public radio has been affected since last November 25 by a strike movement against a plan to cut 299 jobs within Radio France. Many programs have been replaced by the station's music playlist.

This news will put balm in the hearts of its employees after a difficult return to January, including the publication of a dependent book against its humorists written by Frédéric Beigbeder.

France Info suffers from strike

Neck and neck during the last score, RTL hoped to take advantage of the turbulence of its competitor to win. Yves Calvi and Laurent Ruquier's radio grew by 1%, with 6.56 million followers on average each day (12.1 points). But the increase is not enough to counter the steamroller of public radio.

RTL consoles itself by remembering that, for it, the main thing is elsewhere: the gap remains very large with NRJ and the other private stations with which it struggles to seduce advertisers. Music radio, almost stable, is still in its very low range, with 5.16 million listeners.

France Info, meanwhile, is suffering from the strike, with 4.56 million followers, down 6.5%. RMC also fell (3.9 million regulars). France Bleu finishes at a correct level (3.7 million listeners).

Europe 1 bounces

The other good news concerns Europe 1. With 3.26 million listeners, it confirms the start of the "escalation", expected at the start of the school year. After three years of heavy turbulence, the grid worn by Matthieu Belliard in the morning and Matthieu Noël, in the afternoon, managed to revive the colors of the Lagardère group's radio.
