After a month of crisis and criticism of the functioning of the Academy, the management announced its withdrawal.

The press release fell on Thursday evening: the management of the Césars announced their collective resignation, which will give rise to its "complete renewal" after the ceremony on February 28. "The board of directors of the Association for the Promotion of Cinema (APC) has taken the unanimous decision to resign," said the text. Justifying this act by the desire to "honor those who made the cinema in 2019" and to "regain serenity and make the cinema festival a celebration".

The APC governs the Academy of Caesar. Its board of directors is made up of twenty-one members, including among them the five French Oscar winners before 1976 or even twelve members elected by the general assembly (Claude Lelouch, Costa-Gavras, Jean-Claude Carrière, Tonie Marshall ...). It is this board of directors which elects every five years the seven members of the Academy's board, including its president ... Alain Terzian, since 2003.

The press release specifies that the general assembly (composed of 47 members) will meet after February 28 to "prepare, under the aegis of the CNC, the modifications to the founding statutes of the Association for the Promotion of Cinema, and implement the announced modernization measures ”.

For a month, the functioning of the Caesars has been severely attacked. Several directors, actors and professional associations denounced its "opacity" and its "discriminatory practices". Alain Terzian's promises to take account of these criticisms and in particular to establish parity were not enough to put out the fire. Three days ago, hundreds of personalities including many stars signed a platform in "the World" to demand "an in-depth overhaul of the modes of governance of the CPA".
