(ANSA) - FLORENCE, FEBRUARY 19 - An unpublished text by Francesco Guicciardini (1483-1540), dated August 1515 and accompanied by the drawing of a prototype of a tank, was found at the National Library of Florence during the cataloging of manuscripts from the Lorraine Library. The text is not signed but the attribution was possible by comparing the sheet with other autographs, which are absolutely superimposable. It was in a folder with materials of various origins, collected in the 19th century by the will of Leopold II of Habsburg Lorraine. The discovery was in the Pal-Mo project (Palatino-Manus on line) which engages paleographers and codicologists in cataloging the manuscripts of the Lorraine library. The text is one month before the battle of Marignano. Guicciardini describes a military secret known to him and Lorenzo de 'Medici il Giovanecio is the project for a "machine found by Francesco Barducci".
In addition to explaining how it works, Guicciardini designed the tank prototype complete with 'rockets'. (HANDLE).
