Equality between men and women? Still far away, especially in the world of work. It is not only statistics that show how the gender gap is still a widespread phenomenon, difficult to defeat in a short time. Even the girls, having to look in perspective, would like to have many more career opportunities than those who, given in hand, can dream. For more than 6 out of 10, in fact, there are no professions more suitable for males and others more feminine. But for almost 9 out of 10 it is still difficult for a woman to establish herself professionally if she competes with a man. To say are the thousand students - between 14 and 25 years old - who responded to a survey carried out by Skuola.net on the occasion of Women's Day 2020.

Yet the girls are fierce and ready for change. 92% say they would not feel uncomfortable if one or more men headed a workplace tomorrow. Just as, for example, 60% believe that a woman head of government (which has never happened in Italy) would do better than a male in the leadership of the nation. Only 18% are resigned to the fact that there are jobs where men are more advantaged.

Too bad that, as mentioned, they have to clash with reality. And they are fully aware of this: for 45% a woman still has enormous difficulties in emerging professionally compared to a man, for another 42% this is a rule that only applies in certain sectors, traditionally 'male', but in any case there is is. Just 13% say that gender bias is now out of date.

But work is not the only field where they would like a real equality. Practically for all, in a hypothetical family there must not be those who 'wear pants': 91% should be indifferent to those who earn more. Just as, assuming to have a child, 95% would try to make the partner as responsible as possible: according to their father and mother "they must take care of the children in the same measure".

A scenario, the latter, which they see more than probable and for which collaboration at home becomes fundamental: the majority (29%), looking forward ten years, in fact sees themselves married, mother but worker. That's why, for 1 out of 4, the reference model to follow remains the mother, the figure who almost always brings together all these characteristics in one person. Even a famous and planetary success person like Chiara Ferragni remains behind, as well as a woman of science like Samantha Cristoforetti. But there is no shortage of those who would prefer to focus on personal satisfaction: 20% imagine themselves in a career, with a partner and without children; 15% single and in career.
