During the afternoon of Wednesday, a nursing home in the Parque Avellaneda neighborhood made the news for the death of an older adult infected with coronavirus and because eight others tested positive. This Thursday ten more infected people joined, so there are already 18 people with covid-19 who have already been transferred to different hospitals.

This is the San Lucas Geriatric Institute, located on Medina Street at 1650. According to sources from the Health of the City of Buenos Aires, in just 24 hours ten older adults from that institution tested positive.

Those infected were urgently referred to different medical centers, such as the Spanish Hospital, Piñero, Santojanni and the Clinics.

The home has 57 places of which 49 were occupied. In the first stage of the tests, the first eight infected were known, including a 90-year-old woman who lived there and died on Monday morning.

Given this, the Buenos Aires Ministry of Health decided to carry out the testing of the entire community of the institution, which was closed on Tuesday, after eviction. This is how the new infected and the urgent transfer to hospitals met

The nursing home is embroiled in a scandal as family members claim that the authorities warned them of what was just happening on Wednesday through a WhatsApp message, where they also asked them to take the patients home.

"It is not known how the contagion began. Since March 18 we have not entered relatives and they do not leave. Ergo, somehow, the virus entered. They say that there is a nurse who came five days with fever taking paracetamol and she is one of positive cases, "said a woman at the door of the nursing home.

Then Eduardo Pérez, the PAMI medical coordinator, said that the conditions of the place were not adequate. "The security conditions and medical monitoring are not guaranteed. There is no medical professional in the care of the members, since Saturday no one has come to continue the monitoring," he explained.
