ROME - The lockdown for the coronavirus emergency has slowed down wine consumption, but in the so-called phase 2 everything will return as before, the food and wine portfolio and business liquidity permitting. According to the first Covid focus survey by the Vinitaly-Nomisma Wine Monitor Observatory, Italian wine consumers (85% of the population) essentially declare themselves faithful to their habits starting from phase 2, compatibly with the their financial availability.

The 'after' will be like 'before' for 80% of consumers. Or more than before, with millennials predicting a significant increase in consumption, in particular of mixed wines (25% expect to increase demand), as proof of the desire to return to a new normal with the usual aggregating elements, starting from from the product and its places of consumption outside the home (restaurants, clubs, wine bars), which are worth a 1/3 slice of the sample in terms of volume (42% among millennials).

For Veronafiere's managing director, Giovanni Mantovani, "if little seems to change in consumer habits - and this is good news - wine companies are instead called to profound changes, grappling with the need to react to financial tensions and at the same time to defend oneself from speculation. The market and its new reference channels will be the main cures for a sector that today needs an extraordinary outlook on the economic situation and a partner capable of providing new horizons and solutions ". "As Veronafiere - he concluded - from now to the next few months we want to take this responsibility even more in support of the sector".
