The number of Italian athletes qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in sport climbing, discipline at the debut in the Games, rises to three. In fact, together with Ludovico Fossali and Laura Rogora, Michael Piccolruaz, who has obtained the nominal pass thanks to the reallocation of two unused quotas, will also be the specialty of the combined, the only one included in the Olympic program. The Olympic goal was thus also hit by the French Anouck Jaubert. According to the qualification system, the seats at the discretion of the Tripartite Commission should have been requested by the end of March, but no application was submitted, so Piccolruaz was able to celebrate thanks to the 14th place obtained at the 2019 World Cup that took place in Hachioji, Japan. In total there will be 32 (16 women and as many men) the total of athletes who will measure themselves in sport climbing at the Japanese Olympics next year. With the pass obtained by Piccolruaz, the blues qualified for Tokyo 2020 rise to 209 (108 men, 101 women) in 24 different disciplines with 21 individual passes.
