Michel Piccoli, whose disappearance on May 12, at the age of 94, was announced on Monday by his family, shot with Brigitte Bardot one of the legendary scenes of cinema.
At the opening of Le Mépris , Bardot, lying naked on a bed, lists the parts of her body under Piccoli's loving gaze for an unforgettable dialogue, to music by Georges Delerue: "Do you see my behind in the mirror? - Yes. Do you find my buttocks pretty? - Yes very."
Godard's film will reveal the actor to the general public in 1963. Taken from the novel by Alberto Moravia, the film tells of the couple's slow disintegration, during a shooting in Italy in La Villa Malaparte on the island of Capri.
Michel Piccoli plays a Parisian screenwriter, Paul, who leaves with his wife Camille (Brigitte Bardot) to join director Fritz Lang filming in Italy on behalf of the American film producer Jeremy Prokosch, on the set of the film Ulysse (an adaptation of L 'Odyssey ).
