Dogs can cause disputes in apartment buildings. Especially when the four-legged friends bark often, neighbors can feel disturbed.
Berlin (dpa / tmn) - Dogs can usually be kept in rental apartments. The tenant and dog owner should then be considerate of the neighbors. This is pointed out by the owner association Haus & Grund Germany.
Occasional dog barking is to be accepted by the landlord and other tenants, because this is part of the contractual use of the apartment if keeping dogs is allowed.
However, it depends on the dose: especially long barking at different times of the day and night can be seen as a disturbance of domestic peace. This can result in the tenancy being terminated without notice, as a decision by the Potsdam District Court shows (file number: 26 C 76/00).
However, neighbors cannot defend themselves against walking the dog at night. Even during the rest periods - after 10 p.m. - every dog owner is allowed to walk with his dog through the stairwell. However, care must be taken not to make excessive noise.
