He was arrested overnight and will be questioned on Monday, by Arezzo prosecutor Roberto Rossi, the driver of the minivan who crashed yesterday against a truck on the A1 causing the death of two 8-month and 10-year-old girls and 50-year-old grandparents. The man, a thirty-year-old of Sinti origin, is the father of the girls and was arrested by the Polstrada for road murder.
The arrest took place in the hospital, where the man had been brought for medical treatment and where he had tested negative for the alcohol test; the most probable hypothesis, in fact, is that, having been behind the wheel for many hours, he had a sleep. Some witnesses reported seeing the minivan zigzag, then crashing into the truck that was stationary and entirely placed inside the emergency parking area, and finish its run by hitting a car that, in turn, it hit another.
In addition to the four victims, there are seven wounded: the most serious, but not life threatening, are the mother of the girls, led to the Policlinico Le Scotte, and two children (one of whom is the twin of the 8-month-old victim), transferred to Meyer in Florence.
The accident occurred around 14 on Friday on the A1, heading south, at the height of Badia al Pino, in the municipality of Civitella in Valdichiana (Arezzo).
