  • Writing WhatsApp * messages with one hand is often difficult on the ever larger smartphones .
  • However, a previously unknown function in the app makes this easier.
  • Where the  function is hidden depends on the smartphone .

Writing WhatsApp * messages, clicking links at the top of websites or swiping down from the top of the screen - that smartphone displays are  getting bigger can be quite impractical.

Fortunately, there is a hidden WhatsApp * feature that makes  typing messages on large screens with one hand easier .

WhatsApp: This secret function makes typing with one hand easier

Clicking the Q key on the smartphone keyboard with your right thumb is almost impossible with small hands and large displays . Even if you just barely reach the left edge of the screen: The risk of dropping your smartphone is great! For this reason, WhatsApp * has a function that allows users to adjust the size of the keyboard .

WhatsApp: How to set up the function that makes typing with one hand easier

How the hidden WhatsApp function can be set depends on the smartphone manufacturer and model. The setting is usually hidden behind the globe symbol under the "123" key. Sometimes there is also a smiling emoji at this point. Holding down the button opens a small field with various keyboard images: one on which the keyboard spans the entire  width of the  smartphone , one in which the keyboard is smaller and aligned on the right edge, and one in which it is aligned on the left edge.

Depending on whether right-handed or left-handed or which hand is currently free, the preferred keyboard setting must be touched. The function is not only available with WhatsApp , but also with iMessage. According to Apple , at least one iPhone 6 is required to activate the one-handed keyboard. The function is not available on the iPhone SE and iPod touch .

There is also the secret WhatsApp function for Samsung smartphones , but you have to take a small detour: via the accessibility. It can be found, for example, on the Galaxy S10 and S10 +, but also on some older models, in the settings under the menu items "Extended functions" and "Movements and gestures". Now only the "one-handed mode" has to be activated.

To use the function , you have to swipe diagonally from the lower corner of the screen in the WhatApp message window to the middle. In contrast to the iPhone version, however, the entire display image is reduced on Samsung phones . To end the function , just tap the black field at the other end of the screen.
