Five days after escaping from the hotel where he was carrying out the mandatory quarantine for prevention of Covid-19, the young man known as "fugitive boyfriend" appeared. Facundo Nahuel López (21) was confined for 14 days in a hotel room because he had come from another province and escaped with the help of sheets through the window.

On Friday afternoon, the fugitive reconsidered and, tired of hiding, decided to turn himself in at a police station in San Rafael, in the south of Mendoza. He was detained and sent to a crest, dungeons for people awaiting criminal resolution before entering the prison. Although the flight for not fulfilling the quarantine is a misdemeanor, you must wait for the resolution of the prosecutor to regain freedom.

"He lied at the address he set upon entering the province, he is detained due to procedural risk. He provided a new address that we are verifying, ”prosecutor Iván Avalos told Télam.

López escaped on Sunday, July 12 at night in a movie leak. He tied the sheets and went down a wall to supposedly go meet his girlfriend. Before, he had left all his personal data and signed an affidavit at the reception of the Milenium Hotel.

The young man lives in San Rafael but works in the oil town of Rincón de Los Sauces, in Neuquén, 700 kilometers from his home. He had returned to his city on July 4 and, like all travelers and returnees, he was required to make a 14-day confinement in a hotel in Mendoza. He could not leave the room and had to take his temperature daily. From time to time, a doctor from the state health system contacted him to find out if they have presented any compatible symptoms of Covid 19.

The Milenium Hotel, where the young man performed the mandatory isolation, is in the heart of San Rafael. “He tied a sheet to the window. He descended the front wall of the hotel, tied to the strip and ran down the sidewalk. There are no witnesses to the escape because it was already night, ”according to the details of what happened.

Hotel employees noticed the absence when they brought dinner to his door and saw that the concierge's call did not respond. When they opened it with another key, they discovered that he had escaped.

López had 7 more days of confinement. Tomorrow, Sunday, he could return to his usual life, but something led him to flee. The first version was that he had gone to visit his girlfriend that same night, but she denies it. They also did not find him in a raid on a house in the Isla Diamante neighborhood, south of the city, where his family lives.

"Your freedom depends on finding your address," the prosecutor reported.

The young man failed to comply with article 205 of the Penal Code, which has penalties of 6 months to two years in prison for failing to comply with the mandatory isolation due to the pandemic. In Mendoza, there are more than 6,000 defendants and there are 200 convicted for this reason.

Citizens who do not have previous causes or convictions, can request the suspension of the trial in exchange for carrying out 50 to 100 hours of community work in favor of the State, in police stations, hospitals, health centers, schools and tax offices.
