Carnival like "we have seen it in recent years will not exist," said the President of the Association of German Carnival. Mardi Gras and Carnival events should not be banned across the board.

Klaus-Ludwig Fess appeals to the common sense of all carnival friends.

Due to the corona pandemic, the President of the Federation of German Carnival (BDK) calls for the 2020/21 session to refrain from Carnival Monday procession and large fool meetings.

"That requires responsibility for the active members of the clubs as well as for the audience," said Fess on Thursday evening in Bexbach in Saarland, as reported by the dpa news agency.

In addition, the tournament season in carnival dance sport will be canceled - the German championship in Cologne in March will not take place.

"It affects all of us emotionally. It is of course a big disaster, especially for a lot of active people who have already prepared in the last few months," said Fess.

In view of the high number of corona cases, one has to take responsibility.

One thing is clear in the upcoming session: Carnival as "we have experienced it in recent years will not exist in any of the 16 federal states".

Despite everything, that does not mean that Mardi Gras or Carnival is suspended.

You can find alternatives and celebrate in smaller formats.

Carnival entertainment can also be presented digitally.

The BDK has always spoken out against a blanket ban on Mardi Gras and Carnival events.

Vice-President Peter Krawietz addressed the associations directly: "We recommend that you refrain from major events in halls with large gatherings of people. Do not organize parades in densely populated communities and towns."

In addition, alcohol should be avoided.

The recommendation also applies to regions that are not risk areas - and until the end of the session at the end of February 2021.

The BDK has around 2.6 million members in more than 5300 associations and guilds nationwide.
