(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 21 - A person found positive for coronavirus in the Australian state of Victoria could be the first case of reinfection in the continent.

The Guardian reports it.

It is very rare to get sick of coronavirus again, as shown by the only six cases, out of 40 million infected, of this type.

However, it is still unclear how strong the immunity from Covid-19 is after having it nor how long it lasts.

The person found positive for coronavirus in Victoria had already been infected in July.

It is not certain that it is a second contagion because the genomic sequence has not yet been completed and in some cases, experts warn, the positive swab could simply be the effect of the dead virus that is leaving the organism.

The previous six cases occurred in the US and Hong Kong.

Here, a 33-year-old man fell ill four months after recovering from Covid-19.

The second infection, however, proved asymptomatic, demonstrating that some kind of immunity had been developed.
