An attack in Nice.

In Lyon.

In Vienna.

Wherever Islamist perpetrators strike - it is usually said that it is the perfidious act of an individual.

But a new Arte documentary by the Munich journalist Daniel Harrich now reveals that the people behind it are secret services that earn money through terrorism.

  • Terrorism is becoming a global business model

  • Investigative journalist Daniel Harrich was able to speak to secret service representatives from all over the world

  • Harrich and his team did research worldwide for two years

Daniel Harrich did not give up.

As always.

He wanted to speak to Michael Hayden, former director of NSA and CIA.

And did it.

As always.

“He canceled me seven times.

The eighth time, I wrote him a two-page email explaining why I think it's so important that he speak to us in front of the camera.

I really threw everything into the balance, ”says the persistent, but persistently very polite and passionate Munich investigative journalist.

“Love of democracy, freedom, human rights - I think Hayden liked that so much that he said, 'Okay, come to my office in Washington on this and that day, I have ten minutes.'” Ten minutes turned into four hours .

“A friendly, pleasant conversation.

We keep in touch to this day, ”says Harrich.

This is so extraordinary because the 37-year-old managed to get one of the highest-ranking people in the US secret service to report in front of the camera about the counter-terrorism that is going on worldwide.

A perfidious business is going on unnoticed by the public:

“The business with terror”

is the name of Daniel Harrich's documentary, which is well worth seeing and which Arte will show on November 13th at 10:15 pm and subsequently in the media library.

If there are attacks, as has just happened in Nice or Vienna, it is usually said that it was the act of a lone perpetrator that the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) claims for itself.

Ex-CIA boss Hayden contradicts this in the film: “These are not attacks by lone wolves.

Groups like the Islamic State have an extremely powerful operational unit that focuses on planning and carrying out these attacks in Western Europe. "

The ISI secret service is the real power in Pakistan

Recruits are trained in training camps on the Afghan-Pakistani border.

Financed by the Pakistani secret service Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

"This secret service is the real power in the state," emphasizes Harrich.

Terror becomes a business model here.

“It all started with the Palestinian terror in the 1970s with airplane hijackings and so on.

It was also about extorting money, ”says the journalist, who uncovered one impropriety after another with documentaries and feature films like“ The Blind Spot ”at an insane pace.

He is convinced: “The ideologies that are supposedly behind an attack are beautifully faked;

and probably the guys who strap on bombs really believe in it.

But in the end it is always about extorting money. ”Harrich also got the ex-president of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, in front of the camera.

The man who on the one hand always pretended to work with the West, but on the other hand cooperated with ISI.

Harrich: “There are reasons why Musharraf lives in the ivory tower in Dubai, surrounded by absolute luxury.

In Pakistan, terrorism is an industry. "

How can we prevent unnecessary bloodshed?

So what to do

Forbid the western secret services to get involved in the fight against terror with alleged partners who also support terror?

After all, they supposedly prevent even more bloodshed - don't they?

“Yes, the work of the secret services probably prevents attacks.

But I think: as a free democracy we must not allow such a system for decades and wonder: How can it be that the terror does not stop?

It just doesn't stop because they know: as long as the terror continues to simmer, we will continue to pay them money.

As free-thinking people, we have to be aware of this. "

Arte will show the film on November 13th at 10.15 p.m. and subsequently in the Arte media library
