The eighth time, I wrote him a two-page email explaining why I think it's so important that he speak to us in front of the camera.
I really threw everything into the balance, ”says the persistent, but persistently very polite and passionate Munich investigative journalist.
“Love of democracy, freedom, human rights - I think Hayden liked that so much that he said, 'Okay, come to my office in Washington on this and that day, I have ten minutes.'” Ten minutes turned into four hours .
“A friendly, pleasant conversation.
We keep in touch to this day, ”says Harrich.

This is so extraordinary because the 37-year-old managed to get one of the highest-ranking people in the US secret service to report in front of the camera about the counter-terrorism that is going on worldwide.

“The business with terror”

“It all started with the Palestinian terror in the 1970s with airplane hijackings and so on.
It was also about extorting money, ”says the journalist, who uncovered one impropriety after another with documentaries and feature films like“ The Blind Spot ”at an insane pace.
He is convinced: “The ideologies that are supposedly behind an attack are beautifully faked;
and probably the guys who strap on bombs really believe in it.
But in the end it is always about extorting money. ”Harrich also got the ex-president of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, in front of the camera.
The man who on the one hand always pretended to work with the West, but on the other hand cooperated with ISI.
Harrich: “There are reasons why Musharraf lives in the ivory tower in Dubai, surrounded by absolute luxury.
In Pakistan, terrorism is an industry. "
How can we prevent unnecessary bloodshed?
So what to do
Forbid the western secret services to get involved in the fight against terror with alleged partners who also support terror?
After all, they supposedly prevent even more bloodshed - don't they?
“Yes, the work of the secret services probably prevents attacks.
But I think: as a free democracy we must not allow such a system for decades and wonder: How can it be that the terror does not stop?
It just doesn't stop because they know: as long as the terror continues to simmer, we will continue to pay them money.
As free-thinking people, we have to be aware of this. "
