Health Minister Yuli (Joel) Edelstein announced tonight (Thursday) that tomorrow the contract for the purchase of a vaccine against Corona will be signed with Pfizer, which will be enough for four million citizens.

Earlier, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that last night he spoke again with Pfizer CEO Albert Burla and together with the legal advisers of both sides, they managed to remove the last hurdle before signing a contract to supply vaccines to Israel.

The Ministry of Health is expected to sign tomorrow with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer on the purchase of eight million doses of vaccine against Corona, which will be enough for four million citizens who want to be vaccinated (vaccine is divided into two doses).

Vaccinations will only be allowed subject to the approval of the vaccine by the US Food and Drug Administration, FDA, and the approval of the Israeli Ministry of Health.

The company is expected to submit the application for this approval towards the end of November.

Delivery will start in January 2021 and the continuation will arrive in current supply during 2021.

The cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Pfizer has accelerated greatly in recent days, with negotiations taking place in good spirits, and as mentioned, it has led to a very significant achievement when the State of Israel will be one of the first countries in the world to receive the corona vaccine.

Health Minister Edelstein: "The purchase of the vaccine is in a huge row for the citizens of Israel. The Ministry of Health makes every effort to purchase different vaccines so that every citizen can get vaccinated. Complacent. "

On Monday, the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced that an early look at the data collected shows that the vaccine it developed against the corona virus is effective in about 90% of cases - a figure that is significantly higher than expected.

Upon hearing the news, President Trump welcomed Twitter and stock exchanges around the world responded with price increases.

The data are based on 94 verified cases of infection in Corona, from more than 43,000 volunteers who received two vaccine or placebo doses (dummy doses).

It was found that in less than 10% of cases of infection occurred in patients who received the vaccine.

In contrast, more than 90% of the people who fell ill were people who received the placebo.

In other words, those who did not receive the Pfizer vaccine were significantly more likely to be infected with the virus.

At Pfizer we updated that the vaccine provided protection for 28 days after receiving its first dose and for seven days after receiving the second dose.
