(ANSA) - NORCIA (PERUGIA), 12 NOV - "A great emotion to enter the crypt of the Basilica of San Benedetto, completely free from rubble. It is a great message of trust and hope for our entire community": this is said by the mayor of Norcia , Nicola Alemanno, who for the first time returned to trample the floor of the place where the tradition indicates the twin saints, Benedict and Scholastica, were born.
"Thanks to the Superintendency, the technicians and the company, today we have been allowed to see with our own eyes the state of the works, which do not only concern the safety but also provide for the reconstruction of the Basilica", he added.
"The ministry - said Alemanno - is proceeding to formally entrust the task to the designers who know the type of work awaits them and are aware of its complexity.
After having seen the state of the art we can say that we are even more confident that the work can begin in 2021, also thanks to the sponsor who in recent days expressed their interest in the reconstruction of our Basilica which - concluded Alemanno - will rise as it was and where it was ".
