A man who first strangled and then burned his three-year-old son has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Siegen district court.

It was a treacherous murder, said the presiding judge.

The 34-year-old confessed to strangling the child in his Lennestadt apartment in the Sauerland in May, laying it on a mattress and then setting it on fire.

According to the court, the man assumed the boy was already dead when he set the mattress on fire.

The prosecution, however, had assumed that the three-year-old was still alive when his father set the mattress on fire.

The defendant did not plan the act, said the judge.

The exact motive remains unclear.

But she doesn't believe the father that he killed his son for fear of not being able to see him anymore.

He wanted revenge with the murder of his ex-girlfriend and mother of the child.

The 34-year-old lived separated from the boy's mother.

He was only able to be with his son for a limited time after prior arrangement.

The psychiatric report found that the man acted out of a narcissistic offense.

His emotionality was always first-hand.

According to an expert, the event was not closely related to an addiction or increased drug use on the day of the crime.

The man is fully guilty.

The representative of the secondary prosecution had emphasized in the course of the process that the mother of the murdered child was punished with a "lifelong burden".

She has also been emotionally unstable since then.

In her statement of reasons, the judge also emphasized that the agonizing consequences for the mother's family were "indescribable".

The prosecutor had demanded life imprisonment.

The defense had also called this appropriate.

The 34-year-old waived a revision.
