Official status is still missing, but Rolando Maran's adventure at Genoa is over.
The company found an agreement in principle with Davide Ballardini.
The signature on the contract is not yet there because some details have to be defined and consequently the exoneration of Maran has not yet been officially decided.
If the negotiation is successful, Ballardini could lead Genoa as early as tomorrow when training resumes to prepare for Wednesday's match in La Spezia.
The Romagna coach would return to the Grifone bench for the fourth time, after having always hit the target of salvation in the three previous adventures.
For Enrico Preziosi it would be the 27th change of coach since he has been president and owner of Genoa since 2003, but the total coaches at the helm of Genoa were 19, some recalled several times just like Ballardini.
The coach from Romagna would make his debut away match against Spezia just before the break, while the first home match would see him face Lazio on January 3 after the restart.
