A chess game between the White House and Congress where the fragile pawns are the people and families most affected by the very serious economic crisis, the one caused by the pandemic.

There are those who photograph the incredible challenge launched by Donald Trump to Democrats and Republicans, rejecting that 900 billion anti-Covid aid plan that already this week would have pocketed a check for 600 dollars for millions of Americans.

A long-awaited breath of fresh air.

But this will not be the case, because the outgoing president has so far refused to sign the law.

Meanwhile, two federal programs have already expired on Saturday night which guaranteed a supplement to unemployment benefits for 12 million people which - according to the calculations of the Brookings Institution of Washington - in a few weeks will become 14 million.

Not to mention the families who will find themselves without a roof to sleep under in the absence of the extension of the block on evictions contained in the plan.

By not signing, however, the outgoing president blocks not only direct payments to Americans, but also the other measures contained in the provision, such as the millions of dollars allocated for the distribution of vaccines or those to meet the realities that suffer most from the effects of the pandemic: small businesses, schools, hospitals, airlines and transport companies.

In short, as President-elect Joe Biden attacks, the consequences of a Trump who does not assume his responsibilities can be "disastrous" and continue even further in time.

Meanwhile, the United States has surpassed 19 million cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

This is revealed by data from Johns Hopkins University.

There are 332,251 deaths.
