Expensive winter fun in Leeds: £ 20,000 fine for snowball fight

2021-01-28T20:55:32.202Z

Two young men in Leeds, England, have to dig deep into their pockets. After a call on social media, hundreds of people gathered in Hyde Park for a snowball fight despite the shutdown.

Two young men (20 and 23 years old) in Leeds each have to pay a fine of 10,000 British pounds (approx. 11,300 euros) for a huge snowball fight.

"We take no pleasure in imposing such severe sentences on these two young men," West Yorkshire police said on Thursday.

"But their actions have encouraged hundreds to be close to each other." This has massively increased the risk of the coronavirus spreading further.

In mid-January, after the two men called for a snowball fight, hundreds of people gathered in Hyde Park, photos and videos were spread via social media channels.

In England, a tough lockdown is currently in place to contain the pandemic.

You can only meet one person outside of your own household privately - and only to do sports.
