The series "came back regularly knocking on (their) door" since they had discovered it, in 2005. Amazed by "BeTipul" ("In therapy", in Hebrew), Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, directors of "Intouchables "Or" Non-standard ", had already sought to know, nearly fifteen years ago, if his rights were available.

A few years later, the filmmakers had been very marked by the images of the American adaptation, then of the Italian.

It was finally in 2015, thanks to two producers who were also planning to transpose “BeTipul” to France, that the duo met the creator of the series, Hagai Levi… and decided to launch “In therapy”.

Broadcast on Arte since Thursday, February 4, this seventeenth adaptation of Israeli fiction (after the Argentinian, Brazilian, Japanese, Macedonian, Polish versions…), had already been available for a week on Arte.tv.

In eight days, it totaled 7.6 million videos viewed… An exceptional score.

The series features a shrink in front of his patients: each episode corresponds to a session, and each patient returns every five episodes.

Very quickly, the idea of ​​making this version the scanner of a French company shaken by the attacks imposed itself on the duo.

Because the first session of "In therapy" takes place on November 15, 2015. And the first patient is a surgeon who treated the wounded of the Bataclan and the terraces ...

Over the course of the episodes, the series shows how a collective trauma awakens individual traumas.

“We wanted to analyze the fragility of society, the need to talk to each other, to listen to each other,” explains Eric Toledano.

Co-creators of "In therapy" with producers Yaël Fogiel and Laetitia Gonzalez, Toledano and Nakache then embark on writing with five other screenwriters.

For the shooting, carried out a year ago, they signed 7 of the 35 episodes, entrusting the others to the filmmakers Pierre Salvadori, Nicolas Pariser and Mathieu Vadepied.

"We wanted to be in a band", emphasizes Olivier Nakache, while Eric Toledano specifies that in this "game of ping-pong", they notably tried to bring "small moments of lightness".

If they had never yet toured with Mélanie Thierry, Céleste Brunnquell, Pio Marmaï, Clémence Poésy or Carole Bouquet, Toledano and Nakache had just worked with Reda Kateb on "Hors Norms" when they offered her the role of fiction.

Frédéric Pierrot, who plays the shrink, played a social affairs inspector in the last film of the tandem.

“Fred did not arrive with a suitcase of forty leading roles,” emphasizes Olivier Nakache.

And then, it was a face, a voice, a laugh… In this musical score that is the series, he was our treble clef.

Their adaptation is a hit: the first five episodes gathered 1.8 million viewers Thursday night on Arte.

And the rest is already "in gestation".

"We really want it," says Eric Toledano, who promises "a lot of new things" around the pillar Frédéric Pierrot.

"The series makes it possible to tell a story over the length", appreciate the directors.

Who also dream of remaking a film.

“Our first passion is cinema, insists Olivier Nakache.

And when the theaters reopen, we will fight to make them attract spectators again.
