From 'Four dogs' to' Due Zingari and 'Semper e per semper' there are many songs in which

Francesco De Gregori's

passion

for dogs comes out. The images of this friendship are in the graphic novel

Children of the world

written by Michele Pezone, head of animal rights,

National League for the defense of the dog Animal Protection

, visible and downloadable for free from the association's website at this link.

The work, which quotes 20 passages by De Gregori and is a tribute to his 70th birthday in April, brings us to the soul of one of the strongest bonds of our life, the one with our faithful dog friends, talking about freedom, struggle and poetry, but also injustices and redemptions.

The passages, taken up through quotes and images, tell of the deep intertwining of love, and of silent understanding, capable of creating not only bonds as intense as they are indissoluble, but also moments of unique intimacy, such as those that mark the path of the great friendships of life.

"The story told", explains Pezone, "was illustrated by my dear friend Francesco Di Gregorio and Francesco Colafella, then enhanced by the graphic design by Silvia Paglione. It wants to be a tribute from LNDC, as well as mine, to De Gregori for thank him for all that, without knowing it, was for me and for all the people who in his songs have found and nourished so many precious parts of themselves. And who will continue to do so, because words and music do not fade, like the light of ancient and timeless friendship that binds men and animals ".

Here are seven of the many dog quotes in the texts of Francesco De Gregori

Four dogs

Four dogs in the street

The first is a war dog and he has no bones in his mouth ...

The second is a bastard who knows hunger and tranquility

and man's foot and the road.

Each time it dies, its tail is reborn.

And the third is a bitch, she almost always denies herself,

sometimes she gives herself and sows her children in the world.

Because it is of the world that they are children, the children.

The fourth has a master,

he does not know where to go, however he goes there, he

goes after his brothers and trusts.

Every so often he stops to smell life, life.

Chess and Tarot

Musicali

(from the album Scacchi e tarocchi - RCA Italiana, 1985)

They came from afar, they had eyes and dogs,

they had stars, and fear.

There were three, there were four, there were more than twenty-four, they

were the salt of the earth.

They were fire and war, they were the sign of the cross, they

were dogs without a voice, they were teeth.

Little pains

That at night, that at night

all cats are gray

all dogs are black

is not yet tomorrow
