(ANSA) - NEW YORK, MAY 26 - The world of children's literature says goodbye to Eric Carle, writer and illustrator of masterpieces such as 'The tiny caterpillar Maisazio'. Carle died at his home in Northampton, Massachusetts at 91, surrounded by his family. Generations of little readers and their parents around the world are still fascinated by his creations. The maize caterpillar was released in 1969 and on the occasion of its 40th birthday, the weekly Newsweek noted that it had fed the powder, in terms of popularity, to other childhood classics such as Margaret Wise Brown's 'Goodnight Moon' and Dr. Seuss. 'Il bruco Maisazio' has been translated into 62 languages and sold in over 40 million copies. Carle illustrated another 70 books, many bestsellers, including 'The rainbow fish "and 'L'orsobruno'.
