The approximately 70,000 Uber drivers in the UK will now be able to be represented by their own union.
It is the result of a "historic" agreement whose announcement comes two months after Uber recognized its drivers in the country as an employee, including minimum wages and paid holidays.
An absolute first for the platform.
"It's a groundbreaking deal. Congratulations to everyone who worked to make this happen," British Labor Party leader Keir Starmer tweeted. Uber for its part called the deal the first step towards "a fairer working life" for millions of people. In essence, the collective agreement provides that the Gmb union represents drivers throughout the United Kingdom and these will also have the right to choose if, when and where to drive.
