During a break-in at the residence of the Emir of Qatar on the Côte d'Azur, strangers stole several luxury watches on Friday night.
According to information from French investigators, four people gained access to the residence of the emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in Mouans-Sartoux in the south of France by climbing over a picket fence.
The emir was reportedly not in the house during the break-in, but members of his family were.
One of the intruders was armed, but the break-in took place without violence.
"Those present did not find each other with a pistol to their temples," said investigators.
Given the gun, they would have followed the thieves' instructions.
Accordingly, the thieves took »luxury items, especially watches« with them.
The emir's family has had a residence in Mouans-Sartoux on 30 hectares of land since the 1990s.
In 2016, he donated a million euros to the small community in order to enable the canteens to be converted to pure organic food.
