You have to hike this work of art.

And it's worth it!

Because if you step in front of the clock that the Munich artist duo GÆG installed in a rock gate high up in Switzerland, the hands stop.

A magical moment - caught in time!

Time stands still at the Fuorcla digl Leget. Literally. Because the closer you get to the clock that hangs between two rocks at 2650 meters, the slower its hands move. Until, if you stand right in front of it, they also come to a standstill. Even the pink second meter no longer circles the dial. Pause. Completely. It is a surreal place that the Munich artist duo GÆG has chosen for their new creative trick. Thomas Huber and Wolfgang Aichner are already known for their wild bird ideas. The two hiking enthusiasts are always drawn to nature. In 2011 they dragged a red plastic boat weighing 150 kilograms over the main Alpine ridge to the 54th Venice Biennale for “passage2011”. Two years later they organized a "powerwalk" with carried wind turbines on Europe's largest glacier, the Icelandic Vatnajökull. In 2017, Huber and Aichner went on a hike in the USA in “linear” - with a silver ballpoint pen carried on their back, they drew imaginary state borders through Utah, Wyoming and Colorado.

The artists are always concerned with the relationship between man and nature.

Driven by the question of how we deal with our planet, which is our home.

The oversized clock in an almost untouched high mountain landscape seems like a reminder torn from a Salvador Dalí painting and transformed into three-dimensionality to finally use resources sensibly.

Time is running out, unmistakable.

40 helpers dragged the watch from the artist duo GÆG up the mountain

That's one way of looking at this sky-high art installation.

But: “The real meaning is only revealed in the interaction with the viewer on site,” emphasize the artists.

On leaving civilization, visitors should immerse themselves in the archaic parallel world of the bare high mountains - "in a magical, epic landscape".

The actual art experience begins many meters in front of the rock gate in which the clock hangs.

When you lace up your hiking boots on the pass road and start walking.

Just as a group of 40 helpers has done in the past few days, including three horses, dragging the necessary items up to the summit.

Because this watch, which seems to react to the individual hiker who looks at it curiously, is a small marvel of technology.

Huber and Aichner do not reveal how it works.

After all, they don't want to destroy the magical moment for us when we arrive in front of the gate after about an hour and a half of easy ascent over green slopes to the barren rocky landscape.

There is no ticking or ticking anymore.

Time stands still.

“Harder days are coming.

The time deferred for revocation becomes visible on the horizon.

You'll soon have to lace up your shoes, ”quote GÆG Ingeborg Bachmann.

If you turn away from the work of art, you can see in retrospect how the hands start running again.

It's worth revoking.

We have influence.

In the end, even on the times?

Until September 24, 2021
