Venice: the 10 films not to be missed

For one edition, Venezia 78, so rich, a selection of the ten most anticipated films is a complicated operation. But that's the game for the 2021 Exhibition (September 1-11). At the top of the top ten is DUNE by Denis Villeneuve (out of competition on 3/9). (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 30 - For one edition, Venezia 78, so rich, a selection of the ten most anticipated films is a complicated operation. But that's the game for the 2021 Exhibition (1-11 September).


    At the top of the top ten is DUNE by Denis Villeneuve (out of competition on 3/9). From Frank Herbert's bestseller, the film (insala from 9/16) has an all-star cast led by Timothee Chalamet.


    Then Pablo Larrain's SPENCER (in competition) with KristenStewart playing Lady Diana in the early 90s.


    MADRES PARALELAS by Pedro Almodovar, which will open in competition at the Film Festival on 1/9, with superstar Penélope Cruz, is a story of motherhood.


    IT WAS THE HAND OF GOD by Paolo Sorrentino: the new work of the Oscar winner reworks his story as a boy in the Naples boom of Maradona (in competition and then theatrical on 24/11).


    THE POWER OF THE DOG: Jane Campion signs a western drama set in 1920s Montana, starring Kirsten Dunst and Benedict Cumberbatch (in competition, later on Netflix).


    THE LAST DUEL: Ridley Scott's film (out of competition), a story of betrayal and revenge in medieval France, will feature Adam Driver and Matt Damon (in cinemas from 14/10).


    BECOMING LED ZEPPELIN: first film authorized in 50 years by the super band, out of competition, retraces its history in the 1960s scene.


    FREAKS OUT: Gabriele Mainetti brings to the Lido (then in the hall from 28 October) a story of monsters, different, freak phenomena, even in the Rome of '43 occupied by the Nazis. With ClaudioSantamaria, Aurora Giovinazzo, Pietro Castellitto, GiancarloMartini.


    OFFICIAL COMPETITION: with Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas, makes fun of the ego of the actors and the cinematic circus.


   Directed by Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat, in competition.


    SCENES FROM A WEDDING: Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain - also producers - star in the remake of Ingmar Bergman's classic, directed by Hagai Levi. The series, Hbo, will be onSky from 20/9.


    THE CARD COLLECTOR: The return of Paul Schrader with Oscar Isaac as William Tell, a former military man who participated in the operations at Abu Ghraib. Finally, extra top ten, the masterclass with ROBERTO BENIGNI, Lifetime Achievement Lion on Thursday 2/9. (HANDLE).
