Damascus, SANA- The Higher Education Council has agreed to settle the situation of depleted students in private universities and define education

Damascus-SANA

The Higher Education Council agreed to settle the situation of depleted students in private universities and set the instructions related to securing university housing and transporting or replacing them for students accepted in the grants of these universities.

The council’s decision, of which SANA received a copy today, included granting an additional academic year in the 2021-2022 school year, the first, second and summer semesters for undergraduate students who study according to the credit-hour system in private universities and have exhausted the opportunities to take the exam allowed by the results of the exams for the academic year 2020- 2021, whether or not they benefited from a previous special session.

The decision includes students who are exhausted because of the number of academic years and who have exhausted the chances of academic probation in colleges that adopt the credit hour system or because of a low cumulative average.

As for students in the annual or semester system, the Council granted an additional academic year in the 2021-2022 school year to undergraduate students in private universities who exhausted the opportunities to take the exam allowed by the results of the exams for the 2020-2021 school year, whether or not they benefited from a previous exceptional course.

Students covered by the decision keep their marks in the year’s work, practical tests, research seminars, or the like. Students wishing to return their work scores to benefit from the provisions of this decision can submit their applications to the university administration. The council also set fees and premiums for the additional year and the status of scholarship students.

In another decision, the Higher Education Council obligated the private university that has university housing to secure housing for students benefiting from the ministry's grants or a housing allowance.

According to the decision, the university is obligated to transfer students who have obtained housing or a replacement for it from the university and vice versa once a week. Scholarship students who are residents of cities or governorates close to the university “who obtained a secondary certificate in it” do not benefit from the housing decision, provided that the university is committed to ensuring the transfer of these students. Students on a daily basis to and from the university according to the approved transport lines.

In the event that the private university does not have housing, the university is obligated, according to the decision, to grant a housing allowance to scholarship students and secure daily transportation for them from the university, or grant the student a transfer allowance in the event that transportation is not available.
