At least 138 migrants from France were rescued in the English Channel since Thursday as they tried to reach the UK aboard boats in distress, French authorities said, according to the Guardian.
Authorities were informed Thursday that "many boats trying to cross the Channel were in trouble" and the searches that led to the rescue of migrants by two Navy ships have begun.
From the beginning of this year to last November 20, a total of 31,500 migrants left the French coast for the United Kingdom and on 11 November a daily record of 1,185 arrivals was recorded.
