(ANSA) - BEIJING, DECEMBER 19 - The elections for the 'patriots' of the Hong Kong parliamentary renewal are proceeding with a low turnout: less than half an hour from the closing of the polls, total voters were 1,184,829, equal to 26.49% of those entitled, according to the latest survey provided by the government which is 7:30 pm (12:30 pm in Italy).
In the 2016 elections, voter participation stood at 43.6% at the same time. In some polling stations, an extension of 10 minutes will be allowed from the 10.30 pm closing due to technical problems encountered during the day.
Meanwhile, local media reported that governor Carrie Lam, who in recent days had made it clear that she would not be held responsible for the low alluence, would leave tomorrow for Beijing where she is expected to meet with President Xi Jinping on Wednesday.
