The Sierra Nevada mountain range in California has recorded a whopping 5.13 meters of snow so far this month (as of Tuesday, December 28), the highest level ever reached in December since surveys began in 1970. CNN stressing that the record follows months of extreme drought which fueled fires and caused water shortages.
The measurements were made at Donner Pass, east of Sacramento, by the Central Sierra Snow Laboratory of the University of California, Berkeley.
Furthermore, December 2021 thus becomes the third snowiest month ever in California (at the top of this ranking is January 2017, with 6.04 meters of snow).
