The Higher Education Council has determined the university majors in which students of the Scientific Olympiad are accepted within the academic programs approved by it for distinguished students.
According to the council’s decision, of which SANA received a copy today, students of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad who excelled in chemistry or biology are accepted into the biomedical sciences programme, and students who excel in informatics or mathematics are accepted into the informatics programme, while those who excel in physics are accepted into each of the laser sciences programmes. And its applications, mechatronics and materials engineering sciences, while students who excel in mathematics are accepted in the aerospace engineering program, and students who excel in mathematics, physics or informatics are accepted in the robotics and intelligent systems program.
The decision specified the university majors in which Scientific Olympiad students in Syrian public universities are accepted directly, provided that their grades in the major in the secondary certificate (science stream) are not less than 90 percent. in the field of Biology in the Department of Biology.
Those excelling in mathematical statistics are accepted in the Department of Mathematics or Mathematical Statistics, excelling in physics in the physics department, and excelling in mathematics and informatics are accepted in the mathematics or informatics department. Politics and media, provided that the English language is the specialized subject.
According to the council’s decision, students who have obtained a secondary certificate from the National Center for Distinguished Students of the Excellence and Creativity Commission and who do not wish to continue their studies according to what is specified in the deed of creation of the Commission have the right to continue their university studies according to specific options, which is either obtaining a new secondary certificate or accepting them in government universities on the basis of the certificate Secondary school granted by the center in all specializations except for the faculties of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy, or by general differentiation on the basis of the secondary certificate average, or obtaining the secondary certificate in the same year of admission.
The council also allowed students enrolled in academic programs at the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology to change their enrollment to public universities according to the specializations mentioned in the decision and in accordance with the approved bases for changing enrollment.
