While positive Covid-19 cases have fallen by 44% in one week, the fifth hospital wave is marking time.

Seven days ago, Public Health France counted 33,447. Critical care services treat some 3,296 patients, against 3,305 the day before and 3,577 last Monday.

But deaths appear to have peaked.

388 people died in the last 24 hours in hospital, they were 417 last Monday.

Monday's numbers are generally higher than other days, due to weekend catch-up.

Since the start of the pandemic, 135,189 coronavirus-positive people have died.

The positivity rate has also been falling sharply for the past ten days.
