Caesars 2022 ceremony: but what a bore!

2022-02-25T23:35:10.068Z

The 47th ceremony of French cinema, this Friday, which was to be that of renewal, avoided all controversy, but also all life. What

False rhythm, real disappointment.

After several highly criticized editions, the 47th Cesars ceremony, presented live from the Olympia on Canal + by Antoine de Caunes, for the tenth time - a return that cannot be described as successful - will be too, but for less controversial reasons than usual.

And more unbearable, as long as we weren't asking for the impossible, just a good evening on TV.

This Friday evening, it was not the César awarded to Roman Polanski in 2020 and the furious exit of Adèle Haenel, in the midst of the #MeToo wave, which caused heated debates, nor Marina Foïs' scat jokes, or the appearance by Corinne Masiero, naked under a "donkey skin" costume stained with fake blood in 2021, offends good taste according to some, bravado panache according to others.

No, these appeased Caesars were a bit too much.

A full and hidden room, but why so little emotion?

Even the one given to Jean-Paul Belmondo lacked fire and above all words, a real vibration on stage.

That we expected, however, this tribute.

“I have never had a price anywhere, I am the priceless actor”, launched Bébel in a moving archive image.

The best punchline of the evening so far, like his lines from films, including the very beautiful “To love is a joy and a suffering”.

A cursed ceremony?

We would have liked someone to stand up and make us cry live, by putting their guts and their memories on the set.

But no, it was too high.

Far too dispassionate.

And exceeded.

After being scared, the Caesars filed their claws.

It's not just a professional evening, after all.

And it's still incredible, after two years of pandemic and so much controversy within French cinema, to try so little, to have fun the old-fashioned way, laboriously, and to force us, the viewers, to still divide — was it average, nil, or just okay?

No, no and again no, we had to overturn the table and finally make us laugh, to tears too, rather than this tunnel of polite and disembodied smiles.

But what curse weighs on this ceremony?

Is it really impossible to get out of the squabble, at worst, or the fair between penguins and long dresses, at best?

It ended up making us angry instead of giving us color.

On a Friday evening in February, we are entitled to better, much better, to warm up the atmosphere.

At least the "Lost Illusions" is a good harvest

Aïssatou Diallo Sagna provoked real emotion, a caregiver who won the César for best supporting actress, in front of very confirmed actresses, for "La Fracture".

“I have a thought for caregivers.

I am very proud to represent them, ”launched the nurse, given a standing ovation.

It was a bit like the applause of 8 p.m. around 10 p.m., like a symbol, on a film which tells of a hospital under tension, until the explosion.

"No matter where you come from, what color you are, beautiful things can happen," added the winner, taken aback and happy to be on stage.

At least a surprise.

Vincent Lacoste, best male supporting role, was by no means one, but the actor of "lost illusions" did not steal his statuette, any more than that collected by Benjamin Voisin, best male hope, who, from 25 years old, carries this long and beautiful film in costumes - also rewarded in this category, as well as the decorations, the photo, the adaptation, a beautiful harvest - of the head and the shoulders.

Anamaria Vartolomei, best female hope, was the first rewarded of the evening.

As it was the most stressed – she had confided on the red carpet just before the launch – we were happy to see her win in ten minutes.

At least someone who had a good night.

The star audience in the room was masked… or not.

Not very clear, all that.

A little fuzzy, not crazy enough.

"The Snow Panther" won the Caesar for best documentary, so deserved, but where was the animal that would have animated the evening a little?

This one was far too domesticated.

We know some who even regretted the savagery of past years.

Not us.

But not that, not that politeness from another time.
