In the middle of the Ukraine war, a lemur was born in the zoo in the capital Kyiv - and it is said to have a military name.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the little monkey was named after the Turkish combat drone Bayraktar (flag bearer) used by the Ukrainian army.

Klitschko said so in a video message that he published on Telegram.

The Bayraktar drones are hailed by Ukraine as a miracle weapon in the fight against Russia and even featured in a dubious pop song.

The unmanned aircraft can approach the armored combat units at high altitude unnoticed - and then fight them from the air.

The situation in the Ukrainian capital has been dramatic for days.

Again and again there are air raid alarms and explosions.

According to Ukrainian sources, there is a risk of Kiev being encircled by Russian troops.

Russia had attacked neighboring Ukraine more than a week ago.
