The marriage between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard was one of mutual abuse.
On the bench, to testify, the couple's former psychologist, Laurel Anderson, who followed the two actors in 2015 when they were 52 and 29 years old, respectively.
Anderson pointed out that both were victims of childhood violence, for example Heard was beaten by her father, and therefore as a couple the abuses were mutual.
Furthermore, according to an earlier testimony from Depp's sister Christi Dembrowski, the two brothers had an abusive mother.
The psychologist also talked about a solo session with Heard.
On that occasion the actress said that Depp had beaten her and showed her bruises.
And again the psychologist said that Heard did not know what to do even with respect to her divorce, on the one hand she would have wanted it on the other not.
The two loved each other, but she was also aware that it was not a healthy relationship.
The trial for defamation, which is held in Virginia, will see both actors testify in the coming days.
Paul Bettany, James Franco and Elon Musk should then parade among the witnesses.
